Unit 3: Quadratic Functions
This unit is about Quadratic Functions
We will be learning about quadratic functions and complete project 3: Quadratic Functions.
We will use the Algebra 2 online textbook on my.hrw.com
We will learn about the following:
quadratic functions
vertex (h, k)
axis of symmetry
standard form
vertex form
stretches
shrinks
zero of a function
root of a function
y-intercept
diamond method
quadratic formula
how to do project 2: Real World Functions
For Real World Functions, please do the following:
PART 1 Paper
- Choose a real world function
- Draw a picture for your function.
- Draw a picture when your function fails (i.e. when it is a relation not a function)
- Include the definition of function and relation in your descriptions for 2 and 3
- Draw a graph of your function on the Cartesian Coordinate Plane
- Include color in your project
PART 2 Online
- Slideshow: Make a slide show of your work
- Embed the slideshow in your post
- Identify the following:
- Independent Variable
- Dependent Variable
- Domain
- Range
- Ordered pairs for your function
- Describe your function
- Describe when your function fails
how to do project 1: Graphing Functions

For Graphing Functions, please do the following:
PART 1
- You will create 5 separate graphs.
- For each of the 5 parent functions sketch and write the function in the following colors:
- Parent Function - black
- Vertical Translation - red
- Horizontal Translation - blue
- Vertical and Horizontal Translation - purple
- Vertical Reflection - green
- Horizontal Reflection - orange
- Vertical and Horizontal Translation + Vertical Reflection - brown
- Vertical and Horizontal Translation + Horizontal Reflection - grey
PART 2
- Slideshow: Make a slide show of each of the graphs
- Embed the slideshow in your post
- Choose one of the five functions you graphed on the Graphing Functions Project.
1. Describe what you did using mathematical vocabulary. The following words must be used correctly, and highlighted or boldfaced in your description.functiontransformationtranslationverticalhorizontalreflectionx-axisy-axis
how to do project 0: Introduction
For Introduction, please include the following:
- Title: Introducing "First Name" Use your real first name.
- Video: Make a video about why you are taking Math Seminar and what you hope to get out of it.
- Upload: Upload the video to You Tube and embed the link

Unit 2: Functions and Relations
This unit is about the difference between function and relations.
We will be discussing the differences and complete project 2 Functions and Relations
We will learn about the following:
function
realation
domain
range
independent variable
dependent variable
vertical line test
Unit 1: Transformations
This unit is about transformations on functions. You will use transformations in Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Precalculus, Calculus and beyond.
We will go over the packet Graphing Functions and complete the Graphing Functions Project
We will learn about the following:
vertical and horizontal translations
vertical and horizontal reflection
5 parent functions
We will go over the packet Graphing Functions and complete the Graphing Functions Project
We will learn about the following:
vertical and horizontal translations
vertical and horizontal reflection
5 parent functions
- y = x^2
- y = x^3
- y = |x|
- y = square root of x
- y = cube root of x
Unit 0: Introduction
This unit is about who we are and discussing why we are participating in Math Seminar.
We will review the SFUSD High School Math Progression and complete project 1 Introduction
